My name is Alyx,

and I like to think of myself as a traveling companion. Life is a journey, and while we’re all in it together, we’re also each living our own unique story. Sometimes, we need supporting characters who will come alongside us as we travel—to help us remember (or decide) where we’re headed, to walk with us down a new and unfamiliar path, to bear witness to our experiences. Sometimes we just need a listening ear and a space to try on new ideas, to throw philosophies (and maybe theologies) at the wall and see what sticks. It is my greatest joy to provide that space for fellow travelers.

I believe that spiritual companionship is for everyone, regardless of what (if any) spiritual path you are on. I have a passion for creating spaces where questions are encouraged, where ideas can be tried on, experimented with, and accepted or rejected as you see fit; where individual truth and inner wisdom can come to light.

I am agnostic, but you don’t need to be in order to work with me. I bring a deep, genuine curiosity and a desire to help you figure out how you make meaning out of your own Big Life Stuff, and to reclaim your narrative in a way that works for you. I am queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent, and my journey into those identities has given me a lot of experience with contemplation, discernment, and learning how to listen for what’s true. I have a particular interest in working with fellow LGBTQIA+ folks and “exvangelicals” or other people who have stepped (or are thinking about stepping) away from a tradition they found didn’t quite fit them.

The name Restless Courage has been my internet handle for 20 years (it was the name I used on AOL Instant Messenger way back in high school). When I first threw the words together, they evoked for me the idea of longing to be able to do something important with my life, even if it scared me. I played around with a few different ideas for a name for my spiritual companionship practice, but I kept coming back to this one. The work of finding one’s own inner wisdom and direction, and owning and living into those things, can be intimidating and scary, but it is also work that I think many of us long to engage in. Spiritual companionship offers some great tools for that work.

I am currently a student at United Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN, pursuing a Master of Arts in Leadership (MAL) in Spiritual Direction. I live in St. Paul with my husband and our sweet, ridiculous dog.
